Newegg and OCZ are offering a $20 rebate on purchase of one OCZ Agility 3 60GB SSD drive. That brings the cost down to $69.99. The rebate applies to purchases between January 3 and 31, 2012.
Check the rebate form for offers on other OCZ SSD drives ranging from $10 to $30 off.
The Agility 3 is similar to the higher performing OCZ Vertex 3 and Kingston HyperX SSD drives in that it uses the SandForce SF-2281 flash drive controller chip. But the Agility 3 uses less expensive asynchronous NAND flash memory from Micron. The more expensive drives use synchronous flash memory and have significantly higher write and random access performance.
For most desktop PC users, the performance difference may be difficult to detect. That’s because PC usage tends to be read-dominated and a big part of the performance improvement people notice from SSDs is reduced boot and program load times. The Agility 3 can still deliver a big performance increase from hard disks for significantly less than its more expensive faster siblings such as the OCZ Vertex 3 and Kingston HyperX SSD that use the SandForce SF-2281 with synchronous flash memory.
